HE900T Positioning Device

HE900T Ultrasonic Positioning Device

The HE900T is designed to operate as a point in a multipoint multidimensional positioning system. It can be setup as a pilot or a beacon via serial I/ O pins on the back of the device. The device scans for ultrasonic activity, if none is detected the device goes progressively into deeper and deeper sleep mode. If no activity is detected for 30 seconds the device enters deep sleep where it consumes about 50 micro amperes. It can take up to 60 seconds to bring the device out of deep sleep. In active mode the average consumption is about 2mA. The HE900T comes with an internal rechargeable Lithium battery as an option.

The detection angle for the HE900T is  120 degrees at a distance of 6 meters. At a distance of 8 meters this angle is 60 degrees. These angles are measured HE900M as pilot. Guides allow drilling of two 3mm holes clear through the tag for mounting.

HE900T Pin Description

The HE900T has 8 turned pin contacts on the back panel, in groups of 4; the contacts are 0.1" apart. These pins are used for charging, supplying power and other functions. The back panel has a copper layer, the copper is polished and coated with special material for protection against corrosion.

Versions Features
HE900T-PQ Internal rechargeable battery and 8 I/O pins
HE900T-PE Internal replaceable battery and 8 I/O pins.
HE900T-XE Internal replaceable battery. No I/O pins. Fixed configuration as a beacon.
HE900T-PX No internal battery, 8 I/O pins.

Pin Configuration (HE900T back panel)

Pin#

Function

1 Serial Output (0-5V inverted) This pin is high Z when not transmitting.
2

Serial Input (0-5V inverted)

3 Reset, this pin resets the device if it sinks beneath 1.5V
4 Ground/Return
5 Synchronization normally input unless configured as master pilot
6 Serial Transmission (pin goes high during serial transmission)
7 Test Pin, pin is low 0V when the device sleeps, pin is high when device is active Vout=V(battery)
8 Voltage supply and battery charge input

Internal rechargeable battery

The HE900T uses Manganese Dioxide Lithium rechargeable 3V battery 60mAhrs. Pin 7 can be used to measure the battery level, this pin presents the battery level when the device is awake, and when the device comes up periodically to check for sonic activity during sleep. The HE900T is also available without the battery.

Internal replaceable battery

The HE900T-R and HE900T-B have an internal lithium coin battery CR2450 560mAhr. The HE900T-B is fixed as a beacon and will operate typically for 11200 hrs in sleep mode and  373 hrs during full operation.

Pin 6 Serial Transmission

This pin is useful as transmission enable on a RS485 or similar networks.

Pin 5 Synchronization Input/Output

The device will synchronize on the falling edges of the input signal. If the device is configured as master this pin outputs the synchronization signal.

The illustration below shows how the HE900T series can be linked direct as multipoint pilots, here the central computer is connected as master.  Synchronization is optional since synchronization is accomplished anyway via the serial input ports of the HE900T. Any HE900T can be setup as master hence the central computer is not in control but is only a listener. The master is the only device on the network with it's serial in and serial out crossed relative to other devices on the network.
